Nde’feyo Entertainment has announced that the general public will be involved in selecting the nominees for the forthcoming UMP Awards scheduled to take place on 8th November at BAT Ground in Blantyre.
The awards are part of the 2015 Urban Music Party (UMP), a celebration of urban music and culture in the country, organized by Nde’feyo Entertainment.
According to a statement made available to Mana, for the first time, UMP will be having music awards and the categories include Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year, Producer of the Year, Best New Artist and Lifetime Achievement.
“The public will suggest the entrants, but a panel of three judges; media and industry players Panther Rix, Rex Chalenga and Kimpho Loka will be at the discretion of coming up with the ultimate winners.
“For the meantime, fans can suggest the nominees via Twitter using artist or content name with the hashtag #UMP2015 (for example “ABC for #UMP2015 Awards”). Other nomination platforms will be announced in the next few days,” reads the statement in part.
Two Lifetime Achievement awardees will be selected by the judges and organizing committee based on their accomplishments.
In the first four categories, nominations are open to artists and content considered to have entertained Malawi and kept the urban music industry ticking between the months of October 2014 and August 2015.
The 4th UMP Festival will feature star-studded performers Chimzy Kelly from Zambia as guest-artist and Malawi’s own Gwamba, Nepman, Diktator, Fredokiss, Piksy, Sangie, BarryOne, Bucci, Blakjak, Home Grown African, Sonye, Martse, Janta, Mafo, Trap Squad, Young Kay as well as Tech Dali.
The statement also stated that the show will feature special events including spoken word, a dance showdown and an MC battle. Winners of these two competitions will receive K50,000 each.
