Vice-President Saulosi Chilima has commended Blantyre Lions Club for assisting Government in improving lives of the needy in the country.
He made the remarks Saturday when he teed–off a fundraising golf tournament for Blantyre Lions Club at M’bawa Country Golf Course, Bvumbwe in Thyolo.
Chilima said the Club has demonstrated a sense of maturity by helping the under privileged.
“I am reliably informed that the money realized from the Charity Golf tournament will go straight to over 200 students the club is supporting in different secondary schools. The Club has really taken a positive way that government is looking in ensuring that every child is going to school despite having poor financial background.”
“In this way the club is alleviating others suffering and by doing so complementing government efforts,” said Chilima.
Chilima also commended the Club for donating MK7 million towards the flood disaster response earlier this year.
The Club’s President, Hilda Singo said the grouping believes in doing charity works that could benefit the underprivileged.
“Through this golf we intend to raise MK6 million but all in all if we can go beyond our target the better or else if we can manage to get over MK3 million the better also. Through the money to be realised, we shall assist over 200 students who needs our assistance in secondary schools.”
“But I have to say here that the presence of the Vice president has made the charity golf tournament to be very meaningful and interesting,” she said.
During the tournament, Victoria Hotel in Blantyre donated MK2 million. Managing Director Furkan Gani said the gesture was part of the hotel’s social responsibility.
Vice President Chilima teed-off five holes instead of three as planned. The other two holes were supported by Victoria Hotel.
