Copy right association of Malawi (COSOMA) Executive Director Dora Makwinja said eusic Malawi Awards (MUMA) Awards are very important in recognizing the role that music plays in our lives, and the awards are an incentive to the musicians to create more.

Dora Makwinja said this in Lilongwe on Friday during the Second edition of MUMA presentation at Bingu International Conference Center (BICC).

Makwinja therefore said, “Music as we know it, moves everyone and without it life would be pointless, music allows people to be creative and it offers more life to people.

For us to listen and like music, a lot of creativity goes into the composition through to the process of distribution of the final product. That is why it is imperative to reward the efforts that are made by the people who give us more meaning to life through music- the musicians.”

On his part Musician Union of Malawi president Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango said the Awards recognize excellency and encourage professionalism in the music industry as a whole.

“As you may be aware this initiative was inaugurated last year as the Music Association of Malawi (MAM) Music Awards, but today we are celebrating the event as the MUMA Awards. The awards have been changed to Music Malawi Awards to reflect the mission, vision and goals of making the event a truly national, all encompassing and sustainable living annual event,” explained Rev Mhango.
